Elaine Warburton - Chief Executive
Elaine has been a Director of a number of UK healthcare companies and is a qualified chartered accountant with degrees in genetics & nursing. Elaine, together with her fellow co-founders, has launched Opaldia to realise her vision of bringing medical genetics into mainstream healthcare delivery, particularly in the fields of cancer and cardiovascular disease. The result of this being early detection of disease, targeted treatment to improve survival and ultimately preventing the development of these diseases in individuals.
Dr James Mackay - Medical Director
Dr Mackay is the only accredited consultant medical oncologist with a special interest in cancer genetics in the U.K. He set up regional cancer genetics services in East Anglia and North East Thames, and has developed a remote cancer genetics service, using real time tele-conferencing technology, based in Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Trust. He holds honorary consultant contracts at several large London teaching hospitals.
He is the clinical principal investigator of an evaluation of regular mammography in women under 50 with a family history of breast cancer funded by the NHD Research and Development programme. He leads the genetic breast cancer trial, which is a trial of chemotherapy in women with breast cancer, who carry a faulty breast cancer gene. This is the first randomised trial of chemotherapy based on inherited genetic make-up in the world. Dr Mackay is an honorary senior lecturer in the Department of Biology, University College London and has been recently appointed as Medical Director of Opaldia Limited.
Dr Mackay’s clinical interests are cancer genetics, inherited cancer, cancer screening, and the introduction of complex genetic tests into clinical cancer care.
Jonathan O'Halloran - Bioscience Director
Jonathan recently created and ran a successful National Referral Immunology Laboratory and Allergy Clinic, for the Nuffield Hospitals. He is presently completing his doctorate in Molecular Genetics and Genomics and has filed numerous patents in the field of molecular diagnostics.
